It’s no secret that a clean vape tastes better, performs better, and is better for you. So, how do you keep your vape clean, and how often should you be doing it? Let’s break down the dos and don’ts of cleaning vape coils, tanks, and vape filters.
Between refills, we also recommend you clean out your vape tank. The easiest way to do this is to rinse with warm water before adding your new e-juice. Simply fill a small cup or bowl with hot water, and allow the tank to soak until the water has cooled before giving it a final rinse under cold water. Leave to air dry completely before you reuse it — you can gently use a hairdryer to ensure it’s completely dry.Â
If you have a brand new tank you want to clean before use, you can add an extra step of soaking in isopropyl alcohol before going through the above steps. This will remove any chemical residue or impurities that might have been in the tank and make your vaping experience purer.
If you’re switching out dramatically different flavours in the same tank, a PG rinse can do the job of absorbing any residual taste from the old e-juice. To clean out the vape tank, simply pop the tank in a bowl or cup of propylene glycol and leave it to soak for several hours before standing upright on a napkin to drip dry.
Depending on the design of your vape, it may take some time for the e-liquid to saturate the coil, which gives you the flavour and full vaping experience. To start enjoying your new e-liquid flavour from the very first drag, we recommend priming your vape coils by completely saturating them in e-liquid. This step will reduce the likelihood of a burnt coil, so we recommend it.
Whether you prefer a mouth-to-lung vape mimicking a cigarette’s drag or a direct lung vape for maximum flavour, priming the coil is always a good idea. For rebuildable coils, open up the package and find the two white spots that are the cotton wicks. Place droplets of e-liquid on these one at a time until the wick is the colour of the e-liquid and no more can be absorbed into the coil. Turn the coil upright and repeat with any white cotton you can see.
With sub-ohm coils, simply turn your device to its lowest wattage and take four or five drags until you can taste the flavour. Slowly increase the wattage, making sure the flavour is there before increasing up to the final operating temperature.
If you want to wash a vape coil, it’s important to note that this can only be done with rebuildable or RTA tanks. Replaceable coils are not recommended for cleaning, and this is a long process that will usually only give you one or two more days of vaping.
To wash a rebuildable vape coil, remove the wicks and dry burn the coil gently, without getting too much glow. Remove the atomiser from your mod and run it gently under warm water. Get your cleaning tool out of its case and brush lightly before a final rinse and dry burn to ensure everything is water-free.
