    So what are Terpenes?

Terpenes are a type of organic compound that are found in many plants, including cannabis. They are responsible for the plant's unique colour, flavour and aroma, and may also have therapeutic properties.

Scientists have currently identified over 20,000 terpenes, approxity identify 150 in cannabis.

In cannabis, terpenes work together with cannabinoids, such as THC and CBD, to produce the plant's overall effects. This phenomenon is known as the "entourage effect," and it suggests that the combination of terpenes and cannabinoids may be more effective than either compound alone.

Cannabis-derived terpenes are extracted directly from the cannabis plant. There are many different types of cannabis terpenes, each with its own unique flavour and aroma profile. For example, myrcene is a terpene that is commonly found in cannabis, and it has a musky, earthy aroma. Limonene, on the other hand, is a terpene that is found in citrus fruits, and it has a fresh, citrusy scent.

Botanical terpenes, on the other hand, are extracted from other plants, such as citrus fruits, pine trees, and lavender. They are commonly used in the food and fragrance industries to add flavour and scent to products. For example, limonene, which is a terpene found in citrus fruits, is often used to add a citrusy flavour to food and drinks. Pinene, which is found in pine trees, is commonly used in perfumes and other fragrances.

While both types of terpenes have similar chemical structures and can be used for similar purposes, they may not have the same effects on the body. Cannabis-derived terpenes may interact with the body's endocannabinoid system, which could have therapeutic benefits, while botanical terpenes may not have the same effect. Additionally, some people may be sensitive to certain botanical terpenes, so it's important to use them in moderation. Overall, both cannabis-derived and botanical terpenes can be used to enhance the flavor and aroma of products, but it's important to understand the differences between the two and use them responsibly.

Terpenes are produced in the same glands as cannabinoids, which are the active compounds in cannabis. They are highly volatile and can evaporate easily, which is why cannabis flowers are so fragrant. In addition to their effects on the body and mind, terpenes may also have therapeutic properties. For example, the terpene beta-caryophyllene has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects. Some people even use terpenes as a natural remedy for various ailments.

However, more research is needed to fully understand the effects of individual terpenes and how they interact with other compounds in the plant. It's also important to note that the effects of terpenes may vary depending on the individual and their unique biology.
